Ephesians 5:18 (New International Version)
18Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
----------This is one of those verses that can be a little confusing. don't we already have the Spirit? Then why do we need to be filled again? Did the Spirit leave? Absolutely not! Paul knew that all believers have the Holy Spirit dwelling in hem, but Paul also knew that not all believers rely on the Holy Spirit all the time. While the Spirit is always with us, we choose every day whether or not we want the Spirit to be in control. We can be filled with ourselves, or we can be led by the Spirit. Paul reminded us to choose to be filled with God's Spirit each day, rather than just doing our best on our own.
